One of the most exciting and stylish periods in Melbourne is most definitely the Spring Racing Carnival – the city is busting with colours, suits, dresses and of course the most important part – show stopping head-wear.

One woman who knows all about this fashionista festival is milliner – and frankly a true artist – Danica Erard. Her exquisite creations have been worn by some of fashion’s elite year after year, and it’s really not hard to see why.

As I walked into one of her exclusive showings one sunny Saturday afternoon, I was transported into pretty much every girl’s dream! The room was a mecca of everything from bows to crowns to florals and everything in between.

But it’s not just incredible designs that have fashionistas lining up to wear one of Danica’s pieces; she is a true artist of her craft, a beautiful soul and her ability to capture a woman’s individual style puts this very talented Milliner in a league of her own.

As we spent the afternoon playing dress ups I was lucky enough to have a chat with this gorgeous woman on all things fashion, races and what we can expect this season.

This must be such an exciting time of the year for you – what do you love most about the racing season?

It truly is an exciting time! I love the fact I get to reach for the sky with the ideas & visions I have – Spring Carnival brings out the best in my creative soul.

What are the best new trends for head pieces?

Let’s talk Brims!!

This is the best trends for my brand personally, classic with a modern twist, this year I’ve been using every Millinery skill to build a work of art, as I like a challenge – and big hats are big work!

What would be the perfect look form- Derby Day, Melbourne Cup, Oaks Day, Stakes day?

Derby Day: My favourite day – Go all out with Monochrome but do not add colour under any circumstances! Unless it’s on your lips!

Melbourne Cup: Is for Celebrating colour & style epitomized! Think high fashion, bold head-wear & take a risk whilst remaining ever so stylish!

Oaks Day: Feminine and floral

Stakes: Family style, relaxed & fresh think linen & stunning boaters!

Who would be your dream client and what Head piece would you love to see her in?

Oh there are so many – I’ll go with Beyoncé in one of my signature laser pieces!
